We have been active in the field of this very bespoke market helping clients to get tattoos with their loved one’s cremation ashes in for 10+ years. The Beginning
The director and founder of Cremation Ink ® has over 18 years’ experience in the tattooing industry and has won multiple international tattooing awards. He was approached about placing ashes of a clients deceased grandfather into their tattoo. He wouldn’t do it without comprehensive research, so investigated the varying aspects of making this happen for the clients.
After ongoing tests, various meetings with funeral directors, crematoriums, NHS test Labs, as well as cancer consultants and microbiological and sterility experts, he was able to utilize this knowledge to make sure the client received exactly what they wanted, but in safe manner. This in turn lead to varying UK and international coverage, which catapulted this bespoke and revered form of tattooing and our team into the main stream media.
We have been the driving force within the field of cremation ashes tattoos ever since.

How did Cremation Ink ® begin?
Cremation Ink ® began when the founder was approached by a client who wanted their late grandfather’s ashes placed into a tattoo. Rather than rush in, he carried out thorough research first, working with funeral directors, crematoriums, NHS test labs, cancer consultants and microbiological and sterility experts to make sure it could be done safely. That work grew into Cremation Ink ®, the service that now handles cremation ashes tattoo ink for clients worldwide.
Is the Cremation Ink ® process safe?
Yes. Cremation Ink ® prepares the ink in a laboratory facility to a high standard of both sterility and quality, following protocols developed alongside microbiological and sterility experts during the company’s founding research. The bottle that arrives at your tattoo artist is a fully prepared, professional tattoo ink, ready to use the same as any other quality ink on their shelf.
Will I get all of my loved one’s ashes back?
Yes. Cremation Ink ® has strict protocols in place to make sure you receive back all of the ashes you sent us. Only a small amount (about a tablespoon) is needed for each bottle of ink, and the rest is returned to you with the finished bottle.
Where is Cremation Ink ® based?
Cremation Ink ® is a UK-based remote service that prepares cremation ashes infused tattoo ink and ships it worldwide. We are not a walk-in studio. The whole service is built around safely processing your loved one’s ashes in our UK lab, then sending the finished bottle of ink to you so your local tattoo artist can create your memorial tattoo, wherever you live.
Why should I use Cremation Ink ® rather than asking a tattoo studio to mix ashes themselves?
A tattoo studio is brilliant at tattooing, not at safely processing cremation remains. Raw ashes still carry trace heavy metals, medicinal residue and other contaminants that need extracting before anything goes into your skin, and a studio autoclave isn’t built for the job. Most reputable studios will refuse to mix raw ashes for exactly this reason. Cremation Ink ® was founded to be the specialist that handles this work properly, in a UK lab, so your local artist receives a ready-to-use professional ink and the safety side is fully taken care of.
Do I have to travel to get my tattoo?
No. Cremation Ink ® sends the finished ink to you directly, anywhere in the world, tracked and signed for. From there you are free to have your memorial tattoo done by any tattoo artist you choose, local to you. The whole service is designed to remove the need to travel.
